I’m going to do it. I’m going to say something that for many people will immediately condemn me to hell. I’m going to commit the ultimate form of heresy in today’s church.
Luckily, I suspect I shall escape being burned at the stake. For now.
I am now a Christian Monotheist. Or, put another way, I am a non-trinitarian. Somewhere along the line, the Son of God became “God the Son,” something that cannot be found in the Scriptures.
Gasp!
Some of you may not care. Great! Others of you may feel pity for me, or maybe even despise me. Some might even offer to “pray for me.” Feel free, as I will for you.
That said, nowhere in the Holy Scriptures can we find that Jesus is God. Many people will go through mental (and verbal) gymnastics to make the case, but a plain understanding of the Scriptures reveals otherwise. I’ve read (almost) every argument made by a trinitarian to support the belief, heck I’ve even written an article on it myself previously. And yet, Scripture convinces me otherwise.
Things got pretty clear around 1 Timothy 2:5 (NASB), which reads (emphasis mine):
For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus
Looking this book up in the UBS4, the Koine Greek used for “[the] man” is anthrOpos, which literally means a “human being.” Man. Not God-Man.
Another verse that made it clear was Hebrews 2:17a (NET) which reads:
Therefore he had to be made like his brothers and sisters in every respect
