Things to Practice for Greatness

I keep a digital journal (it’s Day One for reference). I’m not the greatest at actually “journaling,” lately it’s more just tracking what I’ve done during the day in terms of food, activity, etc. However, one of the things I love about this journal is the “on this day” feature which shows me past entries from the same date. In 2018 I wrote myself 10 bullet points and titled it “Things to practice for greatness” and I’m thankful that today I got to see it again, because I wrote it 6 years ago and then filed it into the memory hole apparently.

Without further ado, here they are:

Things to Practice for Greatness

  • Focus on the process. The end result will always be secondary.
  • Improve yourself just 1% every day. Or every week. As long as it’s happening.
  • Always lift others up.
  • In conjunction with that, always be straight forward with people. Even if it’s uncomfortable. Even if it hurts.
  • Speaking of uncomfortable, get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
  • Go out of your way to help somebody. Even if you get nothing in return. Especially if you get nothing in return.
  • Always be prepared for any eventuality. This is a minefield certainly, but do your best none the less.
  • Don’t let your emotions get the better of you. Ever.
  • Accountability is the name of the game. You own it. If you’re the leader, all failures are yours. Extreme ownership.
  • Be the most disciplined person in any room.
