Doctrines on God and Jesus

As a Christian, it is vital that we understand God and Jesus. It’s important to get this right, for this is the foundation of everything else. If we miss the boat on this doctrine, everything else crumbles.

Let’s examine who God is, and who Jesus is. As a nontrinitarian Christian, here is my belief on these doctrines. Everything here is from sacred Scripture. Nothing is derived from any outside source.

Doctrine of God

God is One

Deuteronomy 6:4: “ Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one!

Mark 12:29: Jesus answered, “The foremost is, ‘ Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is one Lord;

1 Corinthians 8:4: Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that there is no such thing as an idol in the world, and that there is no God but one.

1 Corinthians 8:6: yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.

Ephesians 4:6: one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.

1 Timothy 2:5: For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

James 2:19: You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.

Psalm 86:10: For You are great and do wondrous deeds; You alone are God.

John 5:44: How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?

John 17:3: This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

Romans 16:27: to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, be the glory forever. Amen.

1 Timothy 1:17: Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

Jude 1:25: to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

Deuteronomy 4:35: To you it was shown that you might know that the Lord, He is God; there is no other besides Him.

Deuteronomy 32:39: See now that I, I am He, And there is no god besides Me; It is I who put to death and give life. I have wounded and it is I who heal, And there is no one who can deliver from My hand.

2 Samuel 7:22: For this reason You are great, O Lord God; for there is none like You, and there is no God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

1 Chronicles 17:20: O Lord, there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

Isaiah 44:6: “Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: ‘I am the first and I am the last, And there is no God besides Me.

God Created Everything

Genesis 1:27: God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Isaiah 44:24: Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, and the one who formed you from the womb, “I, the Lord, am the maker of all things, Stretching out the heavens by Myself And spreading out the earth all alone,

Mark 10:6: But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female.

Mark 13:19: For those days will be a time of tribulation such as has not occurred since the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will.

1 Timothy 4:4: For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude;

Genesis 6:7: The Lord said, “ I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.”

God is Eternal, Without Beginning or Ending

Exodus 3:14: God said to Moses, “ I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

Deuteronomy 33:27: “ The eternal God is a dwelling place, And underneath are the everlasting arms; And He drove out the enemy from before you, And said, ‘Destroy!’

Psalm 90:2: Before the mountains were born Or You gave birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

Isaiah 40:28: Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable.

1 Timothy 1:17: Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

God is Omniscient (all-knowing)

Psalm 147:5: Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite.

Isaiah 40:14: With whom did He consult and who gave Him understanding? And who taught Him in the path of justice and taught Him knowledge And informed Him of the way of understanding?

1 John 3:20: in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart and knows all things.

God is Omnipotent (having unlimited power, able to do anything)

Genesis 17:1: Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; Walk before Me, and be blameless.

Luke 1:37: For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Matthew 19:26: And looking at them Jesus said to them, “ With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Revelation 19:6: Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, “ Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.

God is Omnipresent (everywhere at once)

1 Kings 8:27: “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain You, how much less this house which I have built!

Psalm 139:7: Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?

Jeremiah 23:24: “Can a man hide himself in hiding places So I do not see him?” declares the Lord. “ Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the Lord.

Doctrine on Jesus

Jesus had a Beginning

Matthew 1:1: The record of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham

Matthew 1:18: Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 1:20: But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “ Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is the Son of God

Matthew 16:16: Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Luke 1:32: He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;

Luke 1:35: The angel answered and said to her, “ The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

Jesus had a God

Matthew 27:46: About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “ Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

John 20:17: Jesus said to her, “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’”

2 Corinthians 11:31: The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, He who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying.

Ephesians 1:3: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

Ephesians 1:17: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.

1 Peter 1:3: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Revelation 3:12: He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name.

Matthew 11:25: At that time Jesus said, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants.

Luke 6:12: It was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer to God.

Hebrews 5:7: In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.

Jesus is not coequal, as the Father is greater

John 10:29: My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.

John 14:28: You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

1 Corinthians 11:3: But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.

Jesus is not Omniscient (all-knowing)

Luke 2:52: And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

John 8:28: So Jesus said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me.

Mark 13:32: But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.

Jesus is Tempted (God Cannot be Tempted, James 1:13)

Matthew 4:1: Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

Jesus Hungered

Matthew 4:2: And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry.

Jesus Grew Tired

John 4:6: and Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, being wearied from His journey, was sitting thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

Jesus Thirsted

John 19:28: After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, to fulfill the Scripture, said, “ I am thirsty.”

Jesus Died

Luke 24:46: and He said to them, “ Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day,

John 19:33: but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.
