I have a bit of a problem.
I’m a digital hoarder.
That covers so many things, including email.
I have several email accounts. All of them are chalk full of nonsense emails. Mailing lists, advertisements, you name it.
You see, I’ll come across something that interests me, and then I’ll sign up for their mailing list.
Then some time later, my interest will wane, and the mail will go unread.
Thousands of them.
Tens of thousands.
It got bad enough that in my “main” account, I created a rule that identifies emails that come from mailing lists, and files them into a subfolder of the Inbox.
Out of sight, out of mind, right?
Except, they aren’t. They are still there. Collecting. Waiting. Increasing the count on the folder.
Why the hell am I doing this?
Sometimes it’s ok to throw out the baby with the bath water
When you have 5 (6?) figures in emails stacked up, honestly, the best you can do is just start all over.
Declare email bankruptcy.
Select all. Delete. Empty trash.
Now, I can get a fresh look at what is coming in. And hit that unsubscribe link in the footer. Then delete.
In the future, I should have far less emails built up.
I have cleared over 40,000 out of my main email account in the last few days, and it feels incredible, I’m not going to lie.
Give it a try yourself.
Ctrl + A. Or Cmd + A. And then Delete.
