A young monk came across his Master in the sand garden. The Master was bent over and walking slowly around as if searching for something.
Thinking to gain some points, the young monk asked, “Are you looking for something, Master?”
The Master replied, “Yes, my watch.”
Ah, thought the young monk to himself, I have better eyes, I can find it. So he got down on his hands and knees and sifted through the entire sand garden. Twice!
Finally, in utter frustration, he asked the Master, “Are you sure you lost your watch in this garden?”
“No,” replied the Master, “I lost it in the temple.”
“Then why are we looking out here?” cried the young monk.
“Because there is more light out here,” replied the Master.
