Today I had a good reminder that life is just plain silly.
So, I decide to drive over to Hy-Vee and pick up a couple of egg rolls for lunch.
I’m driving back to work, and very quickly am gaining on the vehicle ahead of me, clearly going very slow. I notice the traffic light ahead begin to turn, meaning I would have to sit through a red light now, and audibly cry “What the hell!?”
Not a moment later, and I let out a good laugh and had a smile on my face.
I realized immediately how silly I was. Was I really that important that I can’t be bothered to stop at a red light after the person in front of me decided to go super slow? Would the extra few minutes kill me?
Certainly not.
I even repeated my mantra, “Today it is raining.” Of course it wasn’t actually raining, but that’s beside the point.
For a moment, I understood why the Zen master smiles. He realizes how silly all of this is, and enjoys every minute of it.
